Kashmir launches first FM radio station

Kashmir’s first private FM radio station - Big 92.7 -went on the air today. A joint venture by Mumbai-based Manmohan Shetty’s Adlabs and Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications, the station has already caught the imagination of the locals. “In just a matter of hours of going on air, we received thousands of SMSs, showing a keen interest in our programmes,’ said Parvaiz Mailk, an executive of the radio station.

The Ambani group came to Kashmir after its successful radio foray in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore. “We have done enough research before starting our Kashmir operations. The local heritage, culture and high aesthetic taste for music will guide our programming here,’ said another station executive.
